Assessment of Nitrogen Efficiency Indices and Variation in Nutrients Uptake of Wheat Influenced by Crop Residue Management and Different Nitrogen Fertilizer Sources

Abstract

In order to assessment of nitrogen efficiency indices in wheat influenced by crop residue management and nitrogen sourses, a field study was conducted at the Agricultural Faculty of ShahidChamran University of Ahvaz during 2011-2012. The experimental design was split plot at randomized completed block design arrangement with three replications. The main plot were different wheat residue management at three levels (removal of residues, residue incorporated into the soil and burning) and the subplot were different nitrogen resources (control, 75 & 150 kg/ha urea, Supernitroplus biological fertilizer(SNBF) and 75 kg/ha urea fertilizer+ SNBF. The result showed that the residue incorporated to the soil management had positive effect on soil properties even in short time and increased the nutrient uptake. The highest nitrogen uptake efficiency (NUE) was obtained at residue incorporation to the soil in combination with biological fertilizer. Also, the highest nitrogen harvest index (NHI) was revealed at residue incorporation to the soil in combination with 75 kg/ha Urea fertilizer. Residue management had not significant effect on NHI. Burning of residue had a positive effect on NUE and UTE. It is revealed that removal residue treatment had the lowest efficiency indices.
