Abstract

Abstract
Amino acids are the main nitrogen in the soil and have a great impact on plant growth and increasing soil fertility. The aim of the present study was to improve morphological and phytochemical traits of purple basil using by L-tyrosine and arginine amino acids spraying. This experiment was carried out as complete randomized design with seven treatments and three replications on basil in research greenhouse of agricultural faculty of university of zanjan. Treatments were at three levels of arginine (2, 4 and 8mM) and L-tyrosine at three levels (2, 4 and 8mM) and control (without treatment) were investigated. In this study some characteristics quality such number of leaves, dry and fresh weight of shoot, chlorophyll and carotenoid, phenol and flavonoid, antioxidant and percentage of essential oil were determined.
Results: The obtained results illustrated that applied arginine and L-tyrosine treatments enhanced the chlorophyll a and b and carotenoid content at higher level in comparison with control. High levels of total phenol, flavonoids, antioxidant activity, number of leaves and percentage of essential oil were observed in arginine (8mM) and l-tyrosine (8mM) treated basil plants. The spraying of L-tyrosine and arginine (4 and 8 mM) significantly increased the number of leaves, fresh and dry weight of shoot compared to the control treatment. Spraying arginine and l-tyrosine improved the quality and antioxidant characteristics of plants. In conclusion, applying of arginine and l-tyrosine as one of the safe and natural nutrient could increase the morphological and phytochemical traits of purple basil medicinal plant.
