The study of the morpho-physiological and nutrient absorbance of Dracocephalum moldavica in response to foliar spraying of Sodium Nitroprusside and Triacanthanol

Abstract

Objectives: Given the importance of dragonhead (Dracocephalum moldavica) in various regions of the country, the aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of foliar application of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and triacontanol (Tria) on morphological changes and the quantitative and qualitative performance of moldavian balm during the vegetative stage.
Materials and Methods: The experiment was conducted as a factorial arrangement in a randomized complete block design with three replications using SNP (0, 0.5, and 1 mM) and Tria (0, 0.5, and 1 mM) during the vegetative growth stage.
Findings: The interaction between different concentrations of tratments had significant effects on leaf area, fresh and dry weight of aerial parts. The 1 mM triacontanol treatment increased fresh and dry shoot weight by 1.7 and 1.6 times, respectively, and stem length, diameter, and number of lateral branches by 1.5, 1.4, and 1.5 times compared to the control. Additionally, nutrient uptake (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium), photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, and carotenoids) were significantly affected by the interaction between sodium nitroprusside and triacontanol. The combined application of 1 mM triacontanol and 1 mM sodium nitroprusside resulted in the highest content of nitrogen and potassium, total chlorophyll, flavonoids, soluble protein, and total phenols.
Conclusion: In this study, the most suitable concentrations of triacontanol and sodium nitroprusside for enhancing the quantitative and qualitative traits of at the Moldavian balm for vegetable use were identified as 1 mM triacontanol combined with 0.5 mM sodium nitroprusside.
