Abstract
Expansion and industrialization in cities cause challenges, including sustainable food supply and ecological needs, particularly in developing cities. In recent years, Edible Parks have been implemented to address a portion of these ecological, environmental, and social needs through green infrastructure, thereby contributing significantly to urban sustainability. This research is field-based, analytical, and quantitative. It employs a method of comparing different design scenarios using simulations in ENVI-MET and RayMan software. The study evaluates seven different patterns at a fixed site over 8 hours (10:00-18:00) on July 10, 1999, identified as the hottest day of the year. Implementing planting scenarios that include a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs to develop edible parks on urban agricultural lands resulted in a significant decrease in the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) index to 1.5 for uncultivated areas and 1.4 for simulated cultivated areas. Additionally, the reduction in Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) was observed to be 6 degrees Celsius for lands devoid of vegetation and 5.57 degrees Celsius for simulated agricultural surfaces. The results of this research demonstrate the effectiveness of combining tree planting with crops to develop edible parks. By applying systematic and purposeful planting patterns, the study achieved significant climatic benefits, facilitated the revival of agricultural lands, and prevented their degradation.
