This research was conducted to investigate the economic performance of cowpea and roselle in different intercropping patterns under partial root-zone irrigation conditions in a low-input cropping system. The experiment was carried out as a two-factor factorial (5×2) based on a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications in Shadegan county, Khuzestan province during 2023-24 grwoing season. The first factor consisted of five planting patterns including two sole cropping treatments of cowpea and roselle, and three intercropping patterns (75% cowpea + 25% roselle, 50% cowpea + 50% roselle, and 25% cowpea + 75% roselle). The second factor was the irrigation method (including full root-zone irrigation and partial root-zone irrigation). Lower density combined with partial root-zone irrigation reduced these traits, so that partial root-zone irrigation caused cowpea in the 25% cowpea + 75% roselle intercropping pattern to produce 64% fewer branches. 1000-seed weight, seed yield, and biological yield in this treatment also decreased by 41%, 65%, and 36%, respectively, compared to sole cowpea cropping. Roselle had the highest economic yield (calyx yield) (1085 kg ha⁻¹) under full irrigation and in sole cropping. The lowest economic yield of roselle (336 kg ha⁻¹) was recorded under partial root-zone irrigation and the 25% roselle + 75% cowpea planting pattern (at the lowest plant density), showing a 69% difference from the highest obtained economic yield. The land equivalent ratio (LER) for all three intercropping patterns was greater than one. The monetary advantage was also positive for all three intercropping patterns.
