Background and Objective: This study aimed to investigate the interactions between humic acid and phosphate biofertilizer on growth indices, yield, and certain qualitative traits of common bean.
Materials and Methods: The experiment was conducted in 2022 in Komijan County as a three-factor factorial arrangement in a complete randomized block design with three replications. The first factor was humic acid foliar application (including water spray control, concentrations of 3‰ and 6‰), while the second and third factors were the application and non-application of phosphate biofertilizer and chemical phosphate fertilizer, respectively.
Results: The highest values of leaf area index (LAI) and crop growth rate (CGR) were observed with the combined application of phosphate biofertilizer and 6‰ humic acid foliar spray. The use of biofertilizer increased the number of seeds per pod by approximately 26%, while the 6‰ humic acid application enhanced the 100-seed weight by 3.9%. Under conditions without chemical phosphate fertilizer, 6‰ humic acid foliar spray increased seed phosphorus content by 10%, and biofertilizer application raised seed protein content by 10.8%. The highest phosphorus agronomic efficiency was observed with the combined use of biofertilizer and 3‰ humic acid, which was 43% higher than the water spray treatment.
Conclusion: The combined application of phosphate biofertilizer and humic acid foliar spray, particularly at a 6‰ concentration, can enhance yield and yield components of white bean by improving growth indices. Additionally, it can reduce the reliance on chemical phosphate fertilizers by increasing phosphorus use efficiency.
