The experimental design was split plot based on randomized complete block design in three replications, The main-plot was include: nitrogen fertilizer amounts in three levels (0, 50 and 100 kg.ha-1) and the sub-plot was include of different density of cultivation of two plants in 5 levels (pure cultivation of castor, castor + 20, 40, 60 plants.m-2 of dragon’s head and pure dragon’s head. The experiment was carried out as additive intercropping where the main plant was castor and its density was considered constant and equivalent to 8 plants.m-2.
Results: The results showed that the highest number of capsules per plant (36.7 capsules), number of seeds per plant (217.6 seeds), weight of one thousand seeds (246.6 g), biological yield (10241 kg.ha-1), seed yield (2443 kg.ha-1) and oil percentage (46.7%) of castor was related to the treatment of 100 kg.ha-1.
Among density levels, the highest number of capsules per plant (31.3 capsules), number of seeds per plant (181.8 seeds), weight of one thousand seeds (250.4 g), biological yield (9697 kg.ha-1), seed yield ( 2123 kg.ha-1) and oil percentage (46.7%) was related to pure castor cultivation. The highest LER was related to the treatment of 60 plants.m-2 of urban balangoui + castor (1.47).
Conclusion: In general, the results showed that urea fertilizer increased the yield of castor plant. On the other hand, despite the reduction of castor yield under intercropping with dragon’s head, the total yield of the intercropped and the ratio of LER increased significantly.
